PRESS RELEASE 25-3-2016
60 Businesses celebrate 5th Anniversary on No Mans Fort
In a bid to mark its fifth birthday, ‘Business Builders’ a local networking group, took a short boat trip to No Mans Fort for lunch, wearing a hat for Brain Tumour awareness.
Although Business Builders has its own adopted charity, Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DRWF) it was agreed to share this occasion with Brain Tumour Research and divide the £336.00 raised on the day!
Malcolm Archibald founder of the networking group and a director of Assure U commented: “Both charities’ attend the networking group, as we welcome everyone at our meetings, there are no exclusions and no joining fees either.”
“A pay as you go principle with no compulsory attendance, which is refreshing and appreciated by more than 500 members we now have in the group. Diabetes Research is our chosen charity for Business Builders and has been for four years. During that time we have raised more than £2,000, through various events and individual challenges and team events.”
“As our birthday lunch, at No Mans Fort, was on the same day as Wear A Hat Day, the UK’s premier brain tumour awareness event, the group decided to support both charities. Such is the nature of our members, sharing and collaborative working, whenever they can.”
Claire Levy, charity community fundraiser for DRWF commented: “We have received tremendous support from ‘Business Builders’ and benefited greatly from their generosity and involvement with all sorts of activities. It is an excellent way for local business to include a corporate social responsibility activity by collaborating with other companies within the network. We are very grateful and are looking forward to this year’s calendar of events, which is already taking shape.”
There are many events for DRWF charity throughout the year with the annual Golf Day already open for bookings for Thursday 9th June at Cams Hall Golf Club and a Pamper Day event being organised by a fellow member of the group for the benefit of the charity on 15th June, at the Community Centre in Emsworth.
Tim Green, community fund raising manager at Brain Tumour Research, said: “I was delighted that the group wanted to share their birthday celebrations with us by wearing hats to raise awareness of our cause. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer … yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. World-leading research into finding a cure for brain tumours is taking place at our flagship Centre of Excellence at the University of Portsmouth.”
